Château Mouton Rothschild
Château Mouton Rothschild is a wine estate located in the village of Pauillac in the Médoc. Its red wine is regarded as one of the world’s greatest clarets. It was also the first Bordeaux estate to begin complete château bottling of the harvest.
Even though market prices for Château Mouton Rothschild equaled that of Château Lafite Rothschild, it was excluded from First Great Growth status within the 1855 classification.
In 1973, Mouton was finally elevated to “first growth” status after decades of intense lobbying, which was the only change to the original 1855 classification (except the 1856 addition of Château Cantemerle).
Average annual production of first label of 17,000 to 25,000 cases, and second label, Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild of approximately 3,500 cases.
